[Feature] Post up/down rating

In my post a few days ago, I talked about adding an up/down rating system for posts. This feature has now been implemented for beta testing. The following guidelines are in place for rating.
A few more upgrades will be happening, one of which will be disabling rating for specific forums, ala Fanfic. Until then, let me know what you think and post any bugs you find! Also, please continue using the report system for blatant trolling/spamming/flaming. Also an update on warnings... I also updated the warning system a bit. If a user has any type of warning on their account, their avatar, character and signature will not be displayed until the warnings are removed. This adds another level of account loss for breaking the rules. These changes will be applied to D3A soon.

A quick suggestion, is there any way to link this feature to resource collection? Like have minerals be based on the number of characters in the post and gas be based on how many thumbs up you get. That might add another incentive for people to post constructively in order to get gas.

Not a bad idea, I will try to think of a good way to do this.

While concept appropriate, the random splash of green/red doesn't go with the site.
And these thresholds are....?

I think it's a great addition to the site gears
![]() I'm finding it quite nice and refreshing. Great way for me to express how I feel about a post. "Down" "Up" "Up" "don't care" "Down" "Down" "Up" etc etc xD Edit: I've just noticed every single post has one negative on it, unless it was bad so it has more. So even good posts, or posts that I can't even see why they would be bad, are getting marked down. It really seems to me like there's someone going around just marking everyone down. Might wanna look into that to prevent them from unnecessarily hurting the reputation of a post. |

Is someone spamming rate downs? Thats the only problem I can foresee. Can there be a record of the number of times a certain person rates up or down? It may also be a good idea to have a limit of ratings per hour, like there is with replies and topics.

Or gears can just find the guy doing it and tell him to knock it off ![]() Seriously though, he's marked pretty much every single post down. Probably just a recently banned troll. |

I like this idea, but what if instead the rating system was a purchased item from the store? Just a suggestion.
Yeah I've noticed that already. I've checked a few thread already and someone keeps rating down on all the posts. ![]() |

Do the quote and report buttons have to be on the left side now?
![]() And the vote display looks kind of ugly, especially when compared to all the other buttons. Do you plan to change it? EDIT: Lmao, the buttons were fixed as soon as I posted ^^ |

I love the system. Though again, like previously stated, it looks a bit out of place. The colors do not go very well with the site, but I am sure there is some way to blend them in along with keeping the report and quote buttons looking great as well.

Very interesting to see an up/down rating system implemented. One problem, after reading the posts here, is that someone's gonna think its funny to down rate every post your run-of-the-mill troll finds.
A couple of suggestions perhaps: 1) the system could be implemented with a log of who did this # of up & down rates in total to help locate the source of the problem (as well as keep track of the ratings anyways), and/or 2) prevent trolls from using the up/down rating system if they have been labeled as 'troll', kinda like a penalty for misbehaving. Other than that, looks good so far. Edit: I did some testing with the up/down rating system, and apparently, its possible to up/down rate your own posts. A bug perhaps? |

I don't understand why people have a problem with the color of the ratings buttons... Is it as aesthetically displeasing as TeamLiquid? (Correct answer: No.) |

@Todandict - I dont see why you shouldnt rate your own posts, unless someone has a good reason not to.
@Stebo88 - I love that idea, I will make it an item on top of the minimum posts. I will be adding a throttling system, so that if someone downvotes like 10 posts within a small timeframe, the rest of their ratings are disabled. As for the colors, I think they are fine, how else would they look? I can tone the colors down a bit so they aren't so bright however. The icons are also from the same icon set as the quote/report/etc icons, so they do "go together", but not so much the site. Im not worrying to much about visuals as I am planning to revamp the site this summer.

i would also quite like to know this and is it also dependent on a ratio of ups to downs? |
